Marshall Street Circle Day 7

Day 7 It has been a quiet week.
Not much progress here.
Rumor has it that work has stopped while they decide on who the statue is going to be of. General Billy Mahone is leading the votes followed closely by Joesph Cotton and Nora Fontaine Maury Davidson.

Did the ARB approve the orange cones?

You can get statues of Saddam pretty cheap now. I have been watching them work on it-- one guy putting in some sticks and eight others watching. So I thought there were going to be eight statues until I realized they were city workers...

Monday....noon. So far today, 10 blown stopsigns, 15 wrong direction turns. No collisions. Bets are on for the first head-on.

Not to worry folks. Half of those standing around will soon lose their jobs. They have invented a new type of shovel; It stands up by it's self.

I vote to put David Canada in place as a statue! It would do much more good than he is doing for the city presently.

I would like to see a statue of George Wythe. Also, regarding Mr. Canada and city workers...bring your comments forward at city concil...face to face...be a "real" citizen.

Ha! surely you jest! Bringing your comments to City Hall or a council meeting only puts you on their S list, and then watch out!
Better to bring your golf clubs to our soon to be golf course and take your frustrations out on a little white ball.

If you do a statue of Canada, make sure you mention at the bottom his role in the thievery of the southside train station...which some city officials were in up to their necks...Hey David, when are you going to clean that eyesore up? One of the points made at that sham of a trial was how bad the building looked...well. it looked a lot better under TWBTS than it looks now.

Dear "Real Citizen",

Please inform the Bloggers of your successes for the citizens of this Petersburg at City Council "Face to Face" meetings. No doubt other Un-"real citizens" on this blog will benefit from your information! The "Real Citizens" that I know are on the "S" list!

Just to set the record straight. The City is not doing the work on the circle they have contracted it to an outside contractor.

As for all this about city employees and train stations. This is not the place for that discussion. It is only through the support of many city employees that this project is even taking place. We are working to have other projects done for the neighborhood and it will become very difficult in the future if the perception is that we don't appreciate the effort that is being made.

Phil's right,

Stay off the "S" list. Stop the City Manager bashing.

Be a "Real Citizen"!

Phil's points are well made. But the fact that so many threads not relating to the circle are being posted indicates the hostility and frustration this "city" sometimes generates within itself. If nothing else, this little roundabout shows that a group of people can get together, approach the city, and get what they want. To paraphrase Tolstoy, if evil people can get together and get what they want, good people should be able to unite to get what they want as well. This small move forward illustrates that. The "sins" of all those who have used and abused Petersburg for so long will out; but not until more and more groups of good people become assertive and proactive.
